Lordy, I have loved some ladies and I have loved Jim Beam, but they both tried to kill me in 1973.
Apparrently a state law has changed little to my knowledge about four months ago. The public can no longer purchase frozen daquiris that contain liquor from any place other than a restaurant or bar. I found this out after deciding I wanted a Margarita Friday night at a gas station's drive-thru window. This store sold only virgin frozen drinks. However, if I were to buy a large spirit inspired slurpee for $8, the store would throw in a free half pint of tequilla. Excuse me, if drinking and driving is already dangerous enough, why should we be the forced into even a bigger distraction by playing bartender at the wheel?!
What makes the least amount of sense is the fact that one can still purchase frozen daquiris that contain liquor at bars with drive-thrus!

Wow. You can buy hard liquor in gas stations? I thought it was interesting you can buy beer and wine in gas stations in Virginia, but you do have go to a state-run store to buy liquor. (In Maryland, neither is true; you buy all of your beer, wine, and liquor at independently-owned liquor stores.) And drive-thru bars?! THE SOUTH IS SO WEIRD!
My personal favorite is the drive-in liquor store, which are usually old one-bay volunteer fire stations in small towns, where you drive your, say pick-up truck into the building and there are coolers on both sides of you. You just tell them what you want, for example beer and ice, and the employees fetch your selection(s) from the coolers and put your beer in your ice chest in the bed of your truck, ice it down for you and take your money. Everything is taken care of from the comfort of the driver's seat. Now that's service that makes me smile.
What really blew my husband's mind when we first started dating and he would commute over here for a week, were the walk-in beer coolers at the supermarkets. He questioned the idea of us being in cold storage as being ok, until I showed him the big sign that read, "Walk-In Beer Cooler - Serve Yourself".
Yes beer, kegs, wine and hard liquor can be purchased at gas stations, supermarkets and liquor stores. There are a few bars with drive-thru windows here.
What else I do not understand is why all this easy access to liquor and yet there is no beer wagon at parades and outdoor festivals, like over in Shreveport.
